Hello partners and friends –

I hope this finds you all safe and well. While the last two weeks of March felt like an eternity, April has gone surprisingly fast. I am not sure if that’s a sign of adapting to this new unique normal, the reality of homeschooling teenagers, finding a virtual work cadence or all of the above. During this time, I want to make a point of connecting with you all on a regular basis. I know you have frequent communication with members of your A.wordsmith account team but never hesitate to reach out to me directly as well.

Like most, I am voraciously consuming news. As PR practitioners, we are constantly identifying new media trends and opportunities for your stories to be told to key audiences. We are actively working with members of the press and securing placements so we can attest to media relations being alive and well. We have also seen an increase in client demand for great written content – white papers, blogs, eBooks, etc. A recent PR Daily article touches on six key PR strategies to currently focus on with thought leadership being number one. We obviously could not agree more. If you have unique opinions, insight or ideas that can benefit others, offer new ways of thinking or spur timely conversations, now is the time to share those with the world! Don’t be shy. And if you need help, you know where to find us.

Another article I read this month that really struck a chord was in the New York Times and titled “The News Is Making People Anxious. You’ll Never Believe What They’re Reading Instead.” The fact is that there’s an overwhelming amount of information out there that conjures up fear, anxiety and stress. But according to this article, what people are now clamoring to consume is good news. (Thank you John Krasinski!) We have seen this in our outreach as well. As we start adjusting and coming to terms with the fact that the “old” way of life isn’t returning any time soon, it’s an opportunity to focus on the positive, optimistic and good. Think about what stories you can tell that shine a light on innovation, fun and inspiration and let’s get those out there!

Speaking of thought leadership, we are drinking our own Kool-Aid and launching a new virtual series focused on timely communication issues. If you didn’t have a chance to check out Senior Manager Natalie O’Grady’s recommendations on social media during COVID-19 or Vice President Gretchen Hoffman’s counsel related to a successful thought-ware content strategy, make sure to visit our LinkedIn page or the Insights highlight on our Instagram (@awordsmithcomm). Send us your thoughts or ideas for future episodes.

These days we are dedicating extra resources to each client account, putting a concerted emphasis on monitoring, analysis, fast-twitch media opportunities and relevant counsel. We are finding ways to give back in our community, provide support where we can and continue to come together and work hard as a [virtual] team. If there is something you’d find valuable from us, let me know.

They say April showers bring May flowers. I am banking on that this year. Be well!
