Although Richard Sherman seems to be getting all the attention, I think the best story leading up to the Super Bowl belongs to Derrick Coleman of the Seattle Seahawks.

Coleman is already an inspiration for what he has accomplished professionally as an NFL running back, despite being legally deaf since he was three years old. But a kind gesture from him last week showed what a positive example he is to young fans – while also creating a feel-good story amid the media frenzy.

Last week, 9-year-old Riley Kovalcik wrote Coleman a letter via Twitter after she saw Duracell commercial that chronicled his life growing up deaf. Riley and her twin sister Erin are also hearing-impaired and saw that Coleman wears a hearing aid just like they do. Riley wrote to Coleman:

I know how you feel. I also have hearing aids. Just try your best. I have faif (faith) in you Derrick. Good job on the January 20th game. Go Seattle Seahawks!

Coleman took time out of his busy schedule of preparing for the biggest game of his career to respond to Riley’s letter with one of his own, writing:

I want you to know that I always try my best in everything I do and have faith in you & your twin sister too. Even though we wear hearing aids, we can still accomplish our goals & dreams!

Not loud, outspoken or crazy antics, but a quiet and thoughtful gesture that has become viral and generated some much-needed positive PR for the Seahawks leading up to the big game.
