PR Manager

At A.wordsmith our Managers lead and execute ongoing execution strategic PR campaigns that include – but are not limited to – media relations, speaking and award programs and social media management. We are small team and we all wear many hats. Those with a can-do attitude and willingness to go the extra mile are our kind of people.  Managers are responsible for not just strategy development but also digging into the details of our client programs: building media lists, pitching stories, writing content and being the kind of partner our clients value year after year.

The Manager position is full time.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and execute ongoing PR campaigns
  • Develop media materials and manage ongoing media relations activity for clients in range of categories including professional services, technology, lifestyle and non-profit
  • Provide counsel to clients and develop program recommendations
  • Write range of content including blogs, web copy, articles and case studies
  • Work as cohesive and energetic team player

 

Requirements: 

  • ~5 years communications experience in an agency or corporate setting
  • Strong media relations expertise
  • Strong writing skills; ability to pass a writing test
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to self-manage and be proactive
  • Ability to meet deadlines and perform within tight timeframes and against client budgets

PR Associate

At A.wordsmith our Associates support the ongoing execution of strategic PR campaigns that include – but are not limited to – media relations, speaking and award programs and social media management. Associates are also responsible for the creation of strategic written business materials including blogs, web copy and case studies. Ability to work with complex subject matter is a plus.

Associates work as support personnel under account managers. They are also given the opportunity to manage appropriate accounts and projects. We are less concerned with titles and more interested in work ethic. Everyone on our team has a voice that we want to hear when it comes to new ideas, recommendations and cross-collaboration. We look for people with initiative, commitment and a passion to both learn and do. Our client industries are varied so team members are expected to work on both consumer and business-to-business accounts.

The Associate position is full time.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Providing day-to-day support of ongoing  PR campaigns
    • Writing PR materials such as press releases and media pitches
    • Developing media lists, speaking and award calendars and editorial calendars
    • Managing ongoing media outreach and opportunities
  • Conducting research that supports client programs and initiatives
  • Delivering smart counsel and recommendations to clients and team members
  • Developing ongoing content including case studies, blogs, bios and website copy

 

Requirements: 

  • ~1 year communications experience in an agency or corporate setting
  • Strong writing skills; ability to pass a writing test
  • Media relations expertise; understanding of PR program elements
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to support accounts and provide strategic counsel
  • Ability to self-manage and be proactive
  • Professionalism needed to participate in client meetings
  • Ability to meet deadlines and perform within tight timeframes and against client budgets

PR Coordinator

At A.wordsmith, we like the term “coordinator” more than “intern.” After all, regardless of position or title, every person at the firm plays an integral role and is in a leadership position. We typically hire one coordinator at a time and that person has the opportunity to support a wide range of clients while working with most every member of our team.

Strong time management skills coupled with a go-getter attitude are critical for success. The position is best suited for a student living and attending school in the Portland area, or a recent graduate. Coordinators are expected to work in the A.wordsmith office five days per week for a minimum of 6 hours per day, not to exceed 40 hours per week.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Regular media monitoring
  • Media relations support – development of media lists, identifying editorial calendar opportunities, crafting press releases
  • Support media pitching and outreach
  • Research various opportunities to grow client businesses through partner development, awards, speaking/networking engagements and community relations
  • PR writing (case studies, press releases, pitches, etc.)
  • General office administrative support

 

Requirements: 

  • General understanding of PR programs
  • Strong writing and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to self-manage and be proactive
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to meet deadlines and perform within tight timeframes and against client budgets
  • Team player with strong work ethic
  • Working toward, or earned, a degree in journalism, communications or other relevant field

 

Compensation:

This is an hourly position that pays $15 per hour. This position is not eligible for firm benefits.
