Account Manager

At A.wordsmith, Account Managers execute a variety of PR and marketing strategies including media relations, social media management and writing. We are a small team, and we all wear many hats. Those with a can-do attitude and willingness to go the extra mile are our kind of people. Managers are responsible for digging into the details of our client programs and doing the work. Managers are responsible for keeping tabs on program elements, ensuring tasks are completed and being a point person for various campaign initiatives. They take direction from senior team members but are also responsible for delegating to, and working with, junior staff. They have a direct line of communication with clients and are expected to provide a general level of counsel based on the program components they manage. They know how to think creatively, multitask and effectively communicate through written and verbal means in order to drive the desired impacts.

 

Our Vision for You

  • Effectively oversee many elements of multiple clients’ communications programs.

  • Effectively communicate with, and provide support to, account teams.

  • Manage content development in the areas of marketing communications (blogs, newsletters), media relations (pitches, press releases, briefing docs) and social media (content calendars, posts).

  • Manage ongoing media relations activity for clients in a wide range of categories including professional services, technology, lifestyle and non-profit.

  • Provide counsel to clients and work with senior leads to develop program recommendations.

  • Provide direction, feedback and guidance to junior staff.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Five years of communications experience in an agency or corporate setting.

  • Strong writing skills; ability to pass a writing test.

  • Media relations experience that includes pitch writing, media list creation, monitoring and outreach.

  • Interest in, and ability to, write content for clients in a range of industries, including both B2B and B2C.

  • Understanding and personal use of LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to self-manage and be proactive.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and perform within tight timeframes and against client budgets.

Account Supervisor

The Account Supervisor position is one of our firm’s most seasoned roles. People in this position understand how to think strategically while also committing to daily execution and results for our clients. They have proven themselves as able to execute tactically, oversee teams, be mindful of budgets and keep many client-facing priorities in motion. Account Supervisors are responsible for managing key accounts and project teams, as well as select staff members. They are also integral in building and leading our firm’s culture and upholding core values and operating norms.

Account Supervisors lead communications programs for B2B companies in tech and professional services industries as well as consumer-facing clients. They provide ongoing counsel and ensure activities align with client scope and expectations. Account Supervisors devote a significant amount of time to the firm’s public relations service area, which includes developing strategic media campaigns, proactive and reactive/fast-twitch media response, crafting ongoing storylines for pitching, developing thought leadership approaches and bylines for press, organic social media management and monitoring/maintaining key platforms such as HARO, Qwoted, Muck Rack and Sprout Social.

Account Supervisors are also responsible for the ongoing development of marketing communication materials including blogs, newsletter copy and case studies. This position is for someone with 10+ years of experience working in an agency or corporate setting and requires past management expertise.

  • Ability to plan and oversee organic social media activity on LinkedIn is a plus.
  • Manage direct reports.

 

Our Ideal Candidate

  • 10+ years' experience in a PR agency or corporate setting.

  • 5+ years’ experience in management.

  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to lead accounts and provide strategic counsel.

  • Adaptable to client styles, preferences and processes.

  • Strong media relations expertise; experience working with local and national campaigns.

  • Interest in, and ability to, write content for clients in a range of industries, including both B2B and B2C.

  • Understanding and personal use of LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest.

  • Ability to successfully manage and lead people.

  • Ability to think critically, move quickly and continually drive results.
